Frank Wingold (* 1968 in Speyer ) is a German jazz and classical guitarist and composer.

Live and act

Wingold has been playing the guitar since he was nine years old. From 1988 to 1993 he studied jazz and classical guitar at the Hilversum Conservatory and has lived in Cologne since then. In 1993 he became a member of the Underkarl group led by Sebastian Gramss (with Nils Wogram , Lömsch Lehmann , Dirk-Peter Kölsch ), of which he is still a member. With the singer Martina Gassmann he worked in a duo and in the group Leisure Minx (with Tobi Lessnow and Konstantin Wienstroer ). With Oliver Leicht he belongs to the trio of Efrat Alony .

Together with guitarist Ralph Beerkircher , Wingold forms the duo shraeng , which specializes in the performance of contemporary music. In addition to pieces by Karlheinz Stockhausen , John Cage , Stefan Wolpe and Michael Fiday , the duo premiered Moritz Eggert 's Riff and Theodor Pauß ' Cupido in 2002, and two pieces by Sandeep Bhagwatis and Karola Obermüller in 2004 .

He was also involved in various music theater projects ( Orpheus by Louis Andriessen in Amsterdam, the chamber opera Der Sprung by Georg Hajdu , PoppeaMaterial nach Monteverdi by Claas Willeke ), played and composed radio plays and film music and gave concerts as a soloist ( Bons for small orchestra and improviser by Theo Loevendie ). In 2013 , the EOS Chamber Orchestra Cologne recorded his composition Groove under the direction of Susanne Blumenthal .

As a band leader, Wingold works with the agog group (with Joost Lijbaart and Mark Haanstra ). With the group he won the Europe Jazz Contest in Brussels, where he was also recognized as best soloist, and in 2002 the Dutch Jazz Competition at the North Sea Jazz Festival .

Wingold has been professor for jazz guitar at the Institute for Music at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences since the 2009/10 winter semester .
