Georg Hajdu

Georg Hajdu (born June 21, 1960 in Göttingen ) is a German composer of Hungarian descent.

Life

After studying in Cologne and at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies ( CNMAT ) in Berkeley , USA , he received his doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley . Among his teachers are Georg Kröll , Johannes Fritsch , Krzysztof Meyer , Klarenz Barlow , Andrew Imbrie , Jorge Liderman and David Wessel . He was also a guest student at György Ligeti in Hamburg .

In 1996, after further stays at IRCAM in Paris and the ZKM in Karlsruhe, together with pianist Jennifer Hymer, he founded the WireWorks ensemble , which specializes in the performance of live electronic music. In 1999 he produced in Muenster his full-length opera The jump - Description of an opera to which the writer and filmmaker Thomas Brasch wrote the libretto. In May 2002 his interactive networked performance environment Quintet.net was used in an opera production of the Munich Biennale .

His interests and research interests include multimedia , microtonality , algorithmic composition , real-time - interaction and the use of networks in music. Georg Hajdu has been Professor of Multimedia Composition at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater since 2002 . In 2010 he was Visiting Professor at Northeastern University and Artist in Residence at the Goethe Institute in Boston.
