Andrew Imbrie

Andrew Welsh Imbrie (born April 6, 1921 in New York City , † December 5, 2007 in Berkeley (California) ) was an American composer .

Imbrie studied at the University of California at Berkeley and was a student of Leo Ornstein , Robert Casadesus, and Roger Sessions . From 1949 to 1991 he was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley . Since 1970 he has also taught at the San Francisco Conservatory . In 1969 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters and in 1980 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

He composed an opera , three symphonies , a chamber symphony , a violin concerto , a ballad and a legend for orchestra, chamber music , a requiem , a cantata , proprien for choir and organ and songs .
