Allan Kozinn (* 1954 in New York City ) is an American journalist and music critic . The focus of his work is classical music and the Beatles .

Allan Kozinn is the son of the lawyer Richard M. Kozinn and his wife Phyllis A. Kozinn. He graduated from Syracuse University , New York , with a degree in music and journalism in 1976 . From 1977 he wrote freelance for The New York Times . He was also the editor of the music magazines High Fidelity , Opus and Keynote and music critic for The New York Observer . From 1991 he was a permanent employee of the New York Times, for which he wrote over 7,000 articles by 2014. He also taught at the Juilliard School and, from 2004, at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, music criticism, literature of baroque music and on the subject of "The Beatles".

In 2012 he was hired by the New York Times to do general cultural coverage . However, the related tasks were not satisfactory for him, so he quit his job at the New York Times in 2014.
