Norbert Nagel (born February 18, 1961 in Vilseck ) is a German musician. The clarinetist , composer and arranger works mainly in big bands and as a studio musician for numerous artists.

Live and act

Nagel studied clarinet at the Nuremberg Conservatory and continued his education at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and in jazz at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne . Together with his brother Karsten Nagel, he founded the Roseau Quintet in 1983. The chamber music ensemble produced four recordings in the years that followed. The multi-instrumentalist is a specialist in the sound requirements of different styles and musical genres. He plays in the big bands of the radio companies or independent ensembles such as the Thilo Wolf Big Band and various orchestras such as the Bavarian State Opera or the Berlin and Munich Philharmonic. He can now be heard as a studio musician on more than 100 records, including Hans Zimmer's Das Geisterhaus and Lou Begas Mambo No. 5 and works with international musicians such as Till Brönner , Ricky Lawson , Dominic Miller , Neil Stubenhaus , Martha Argerich and Lang Lang , Emmanuel Pahud and Al Martino .

Norbert Nagel also appears as musical director. Usually in the double role of conductor and soloist or conducting from the orchestra, he realizes concerts that deal with the mutual influence of jazz , traditional music and classical music. In the 1990s, Norbert Nagel worked increasingly with songwriters and singers. He accompanied Hannes Wader , Udo Jürgens and Konstantin Wecker several times on tours in Europe. He produced the album When you are gone for Wecker . With his arrangements for the CD Heut wird's schön he won the troubadour chanson competition in 2007. For several years he has performed regularly with the soprano Angela Denoke and her Kurt Weill program in opera houses in Europe, such as the Teatro alla Scala or the Gran Teatre del Liceu .

Awards

Nagel won numerous prizes, including a. at the ARD music competition , chamber music competitions in Japan and Italy and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts .
