Jazz thing is a German jazz magazine that has been published five times a year since November 1993 (November / December / January, February / March, April / May, June / July / August, September / October) and in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. With a print run of 26,000 copies, it is the jazz periodical with the highest circulation in German-speaking countries.

The founder, publishing director and editor-in-chief is Axel Stinshoff . The magazine is based in Cologne-Sülz.

The articles and reviews not only deal with the “classic” jazz of the Afro-American tradition, but also with European jazz forms or styles such as blues , soul , world music and jazz-influenced hip-hop and club music. The previously enclosed magazine Blue rhythm has been an integral part of Jazz thing since issue 80 .

The presentation of musicians, especially young talents, from German-speaking countries takes up a large space. In order to give young musicians without a record deal a platform, Jazz thing launched the young talent project “Jazz thing Next Generation” together with the Cologne label Double Moon at the beginning of 2004 . A CD with an act from Germany, Austria or Switzerland appears parallel to the booklet, which is presented in detail in the booklet. Acts like Frederik Köster , Tim Allhoff , Cyminology , Charlotte Greve / Lisbeth Quartet and Max Frankl have been signed by renowned labels and have released follow-up CDs. As a media partner for compilation CDs, Jazz thing also entered into collaborations with various jazz labels and distributors from Germany, Europe and the USA (including Palmetto , Warner , Verve , Unit Records , TCB Records , ACT , Enja ).

The associated website supplements and updates the offer with its own content, such as weekly news, tour and festival dates , TV and radio programs, a bi-weekly podcast by Christian Broecking , the IPTV broadcaster JAZZthing.tv , which Stephan Faber is responsible for in cooperation with putpat.tv and an online radio channel on laut.fm . On byte.fm, member of the editorial team Götz Bühler presents the current editorial favorites once a month on Fridays as part of the Mixtape program.

Axel Stinshoff acts as both publisher and editor-in-chief. He produces the magazine together with a team of freelance music journalists.
