Giorgi Mikadze
Giorgi Mikadze (born May 20, 1989 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian pianist , composer and arranger who also works in the field of jazz .
Live and act
Mikadze started playing the piano at the age of five. He started performing at the age of 12 and played symphonic piano concerts. He completed a piano degree and began composing at the age of 14. He discovered jazz while still at school. He continued his studies at Berklee College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music .
In the field of jazz he toured with Lee Ritenour and worked with Roy Hargrove , Dave Liebman , Meshell Ndegeocello , Chris Potter , Nils Landgren , Tia Fuller , Patti Austin , Jojo Mayer , Brett Dennen , Siedah Garrett , Stefon Harris , Eva Klesse , Ellen Andrea Wang , Tom Kennedy , Phil Wilson, and Mulatu Astatke .
As a pianist and composer, Mikadze has worked with the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra, the Berklee Symphony Orchestra and the MSM Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra. In his jazz compositions he explores the microtonality of traditional Georgian folk music and uses these structures for innovative new musical motifs.
Mikadze realized his project VOISA for the first time in 2016 with an all-star band and the Georgian ensemble Basiani , which has enormous experience in performing old and historical Georgian songs and chants. The American world premiere was followed by performances in China and Georgia. A recording was released in 2017 by the Georgian Chanting Foundation . In 2017 his work Georgian Overtones premiered at the Berlin Young Euro Classic . His concerts were broadcast on ARTE and other radio and television stations in Europe, Asia and America. He has also performed at the Newport Jazz Festival , Montreux Jazz Festival , Tbilisi Jazz Festival, Bean Town Jazz Festival, Kavkaz Jazz Festival, Black Sea Jazz Festival and the Autumn Tbilisi Festival . He has also composed drama music for the Rustaveli Theater .
Mikadze won classical piano competitions and has received awards in several countries.
