Per Zanussi (* 31 January 1977 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz - bassist , bandleader and composer .

Zanussi grew up in Stavanger as the son of an Italian father and a Norwegian mother. At the age of 13 he was a bass guitarist in rock bands before switching to the double bass. He studied chamber music and improvisation at the Trondheim Music Conservatory and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo , where he received his master's degree. He has been working in the Norwegian jazz scene since 1990, initially as a member of the electronic experimental trio Wibutee with Håkon Kornstad and Wetle Holte . He then worked with the formation MZN3, the Trespass Trio (with Martin Küchen and Raymond Strid ), the Crimetime Orchestra and in Frode Gjerstad's Circulasione Totale Orchestra .

With his own quintet Zanussi 5 , which he founded in 2001, he released the album Ghost Dance ( Moserobie ) in 2010 . He also worked with his big band Zanussi 13 . He is also a member of the Zanussi / Markhus Project , the Eberson / Zanussi / Lofthus Trio , the Crimetime Orchestra and Sternklang .

As a composer he wrote the music for theater productions by Det Norske Teatret and the Haugesund Teater; he also wrote music for dance performances and short films. During his career he worked a. a. with Bugge Wesseltoft , Hamid Drake , Louis Moholo , Sten Sandell , Kjell Nordeson , Paal Nilssen-Love , Håvard Wiik , Thomas Strønen and Nils Olav Johansen .
