Claron McFadden (* 1961 in Rochester , New York ) is an American opera singer (soprano).

Life

McFadden studied singing at the Eastman School of Music . She became internationally known for her appearance in the title role of Berg's opera Lulu under Andrew Davis at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera .

She has appeared at opera houses such as the De Nederlandse Opera , the Opéra-Comique , La Monnaie and the Royal Opera , at the Salzburg and Bregenz Festivals and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence . At the Baden State Theater Karlsruhe who sang Handel's Rodelinda and at the Handel Festival in Halle (Saale) whose Semele . With the Les Arts Florissants she performed all over Europe.

Act

McFadden's repertoire focuses on the great oratorios of the Baroque period on the one hand, and works by contemporary composers, in particular Dirk Brossés and Harrison Birtwistles , on the other . She performed Birtwistle's Paul Celan Songs several times with the Nash Ensemble in London. In the Concertgebouw she sang a. a. the vocal part in Dmitri Shostakovich's 14th Symphony and Benjamin Britten's Illuminations .

Her CD recordings include Birtwistle's Celan songs , Heitor Villa-Lobos ' Bachianas Brasileiras , Jean-Philippe Rameau's Les Indes galantes , Henry Purcell's King Arthur as well as Acis and Galatea and Ottone von Handel. She has also performed with the big bands of Konrad Koselleck and David Kweksilber and with Fabrizio Cassol's project VSPRS .
