Reuben Hoch (* 1959 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , composition ) and doctor.

Live and act

Hoch, who was raised an Orthodox Jew , began learning the drums when he was twelve. From the age of 16 he became interested in jazz and then played with David Schnitter and Valery Ponomarev . In 1982 he moved to Israel, where he studied medicine in Tel Aviv . There he founded the fusion band Zaviot in 1986 with clarinetist Harold Rubin, guitarist Tommy Bellman and bassist Mark Smulian , which toured successfully over the next two years and played at international festivals. In 1988, Hoch returned to New York.

In addition to his medical training, he found time to lead the band West End Avenue with Christoph Spendel , with whom he released three albums (including with Jim Pepper and Lonnie Plaxico ). He then formed the group RH Factor , which released the two albums Live in New York (1994) and If I Only Knew (1995) with Dave Liebman . Then he moved with his family to Boca Raton , where he practiced as a doctor. Together with junior Robert Thomas he has led the Chassidic Jazz Project , in the traditional melodies of Hasidism are presented in contemporary jazz arrangements. With Don Friedman and Ed Schuller he recorded the album Of Recent Time (2006).
