JazzTimes
JazzTimes is an American jazz magazine that appears 10 issues a year.
The magazine was founded in 1970 as "Radio Free Jazz" by Ira Sabin (1928-2018), the owner of a record shop in Washington, DC (also a jazz drummer), as a kind of newsletter for customers. In 1980 the magazine was renamed JazzTimes. In 1990 there was a further break with the appearance under a more professional magazine layout. Jazz critics like Nat Hentoff (with a column entitled “Final Chorus”), Gary Giddins and Stuart Nicholson write in the magazine . The regular columns include a blindfold test “Before and After”. The magazine creates auditor and critic polls every year. The magazine also publishes the Jazz Education Guide annually.
The newspaper is based in Silver Spring , Maryland , where it also sponsors an annual jazz festival (which has been held in September since 2003).
