Michel Alibo (born April 14, 1959 in Martinique ) is a French world music and jazz bassist .

Live and act

Michel Alibo emigrated to Paris as a child and taught himself to play the bass when he was 14. At the age of 16 he dropped out of school and went on tour with the African saxophonist Manu Dibango to Cameroon . He is a founding member of the fusion band Sixun , with whom he has given countless concerts and recorded ten albums in over 20 years. He played with Salif Keita , Michel Jonasz , Angélique Kidjo , Kassav , Toure Kunda , Youssou N'Dour , Karim Ziad , Bojan Zulfikarpašić , Nguyên Lê , among others, Mario Canonge and Andy Narell .

Style / musical influences

Michel Alibo has assimilated many musical styles from his Caribbean homeland and Africa as well as jazz rock and fusion . Among other things, beguine , reggae , zouk , soukous and groka should be mentioned here. He combines the slap technique with African rhythms and brings North African influences into fusion.
