MC Solaar (born March 5, 1969 in Dakar , Senegal ; real name Claude M'Barali ) is a French rapper .

biography

When he was six months old, his parents, who originally came from Chad , emigrated from Senegal to France in the Paris suburb of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges . In 1990 he released his debut single Bouge de La , which was an exceptional success in France and went platinum straight away . In 1991 his first album Qui sème le vent, récolte le tempo was released, in 1994 the album Prose Combat including the titles Nouveau Western (with a sample from Bonnie And Clyde by Serge Gainsbourg ), La concubine de l'hémoglobine and Dévotion . He received worldwide attention for his collaboration with the rapper Missy Elliott on the song "All N My Grill". Mc Solaar gained further fame outside of France through his collaboration with Gurus Jazzmatazz . In addition, his song La Belle Et Le Bad Boy was used in both the television series Sex and the City and True Blood .

MC Solaar was one of the first to popularize French hip-hop with broader circles of the French population, as his lyrics were more sophisticated and far less glorifying of violence than other French hip-hop artists.

MC Solaar was a member of the jury of the 1998 Cannes International Film Festival . He is also a regular participant in the annual Enfoirés charity concert .

On December 7, 2003, he married his partner Chloé Bensemoun in Chantilly , north of Paris .

After more than ten years, MC Solaar is going on tour in French-speaking countries again in 2018 with his new album "Géopoétique".
