A year later she switched to the renowned dance and drama school École du Spectacle de Monique Mufraggi , where she also gained her first stage experience in twelve years of training.

Her musical success began in 1999: Alizée took part in a casting for the French talent show Graines de Star on the TV channel M6 . She wanted to take the chance to become a professional dancer, but she was accepted in the singing category . In the show, broadcast on February 25, 2000, she then appeared with the title Ma Prière by the popular French singer Axelle Red and won. Following the rules of the show, she appeared again on the next show a week later, again with Ma Prière .

2000-2002: Gourmandises

The French singer Mylène Farmer and the French producer Laurent Boutonnat became aware of Alizée through the two television appearances . Farmer had just written the song Moi… Lolita , which she was inspired to write by Vladimir Nabokov's novel Lolita , and was looking for a young singer to whom the song would go. After test recordings, they then produced the song with Alizée.

On July 4, 2000, Moi… Lolita was released in France and immediately reached second place in the French charts . It became the first single to stay on the charts for 73 weeks. The song was also successful outside of France, for example it is still the most successful non-English-language single in Great Britain . Moi… Lolita appeared in Germany in September 2001 and climbed to number 5 in the German charts.

The second single L'Alizé was also a hit with around 500,000 records sold. At the same time, Alizée released her first album Gourmandises . She sold more than four million singles in Europe and was recognized as the most internationally successful French artist at the 2002 World Music Awards .

Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat were again responsible for their second album, Mes courants électriques , released in 2003 . It sold over 200,000 copies in France and reached chart number 2. For the international edition of the album, Alizée also recorded English-language versions of four songs.

To promote it , a video clip of the song Amélie m'a dit was published in France , which contained excerpts from the DVD.
