Takfarinas
Takfarinas , stage name of Hassen Zermani (* 1958 in Tixeraïne , Algeria ), is a French- Algerian Berber ( Kabylen ) and Yal musician. Zermani chose the stage name after the Numidian resistance fighter Tacfarinas († 24 AD).
Life
Takfarinas comes from the fourth generation of a family of musicians. At the age of six he was already building a 'guitar' from an old oil canister and brake cables. In his youth he was enthusiastic about the Chaâbi music by El Hajj Muhammad El Anka , Cheikh El Hasnaoui and Slimane Azem .
In 1976 Takfarinas recorded his first album in Algiers . In 1979 he moved to France . In 1981 he founded the group Agraw with Boujema Semaouni . His two 1986 albums Wa i telha and Arrach sold over a million copies. In 1989 he released the double CD Irgazen et ini-d ih , with which he achieved international recognition. In 1994 he released the album yebba remman , which made it into the European charts . His greatest success so far was with the album Zaâma Zaâma .
His songs are mainly dedicated to the Kabyle culture.
