El Hadj M'hemmed El Anka

El Hadj M'hemmed El Anka , actually Ait Ouarab Mohamed Idir Halo , in Tamazight : ⴻⵍ ⵂⴰⴵ ⵎ'ⵂⴰⵎⴻⴷ ⴻⵍ ⴰⵏⴾⴰ (* May 20, 1907 in Algiers ; † November 23, 1978 ibid) was an Amazigh ( Berber ) from Algeria . He was a master, inventor and theorist of the so-called Chaâbi music. He is best known as an interpreter or singer of this music, which in turn is derived from Arabic-Andalusian music.

Life

His family comes from Aẓeffun in Tizi-Ouzou , Kabylia . His career began in 1925. From 1930 he accompanied himself with a mandole , which he had made for himself in 1930 by an Algerian violin maker of Jewish descent called Bélido.
