Dominique di Piazza
Dominique di Piazza (* 1959 in Lyon ) is a French jazz bassist and pastor.
Live and act
Di Piazza learned self-taught guitar to play and moved in 1978 in the wake of Jaco Pastorius ' game on the album Heavy Weather by Weather Report for bass guitar. At the same time he studied theology and then also worked as a pastor in a church in the south of France.
He has appeared as the sideman of numerous musicians such as Éric Barret , Jean-Pierre Como , Michel Perez , Louis Winsberg , Aldo Romano , Nicolas Folmer , Laurent Cugny and his big band Lumiere , Didier Lockwood , Gil Evans , Joe di Orio , Michel Petrucciani , and Katia Marielle Labèque , Bobby Thomas junior , Donald Harrison , Danny Gottlieb , Gary Husband , Antonio Faraò , Jeff Gardner , Giuseppe Continenza , Alex Acuña , Philippe Petrucciani , Norman Stockton , Gordon Beck , Victor Wooten , Lincoln Goines , Michael Manring and Yves Carbone .
In the John McLaughlin Trio (alongside Trilok Gurtu ) he went on a world tour from 1992-1993. The trio gave over 300 concerts and recorded the album Que Alegria . In 2000 he went on a European tour with the group Front Page (with Biréli Lagrène and Dennis Chambers ) and recorded an album that won the 2001 Victory Music Award for best jazz album of the year.
In 2005 and 2006 di Piazza undertook a tour with Meddy Gerville , Jean-Marie Ecay and Horacio Hernandez through Reunion, Mauritius, Madagascar and several African countries and recorded the CD Jazz Amwin . In 2006 he made CD recordings in India with U. Shrivinas (mandolin), Debashish Bhattacharya (guitar), Selvagenash ( Kanjira ) and Zakir Hussain ( tabla ). Another album was created with the Italian pianist Antonio Faraò and André Ceccarelli .
From 2012 to the present (2015), di Piazza has been a regular bass instructor at the European Jazz School, which appears at the Hessentag , as well as two-day workshops for young musicians from the partner regions of the state of Hesse ( Emilia-Romagna , Greater Poland Voivodeship , Aquitaine and Bursa) (Province) ).
