'Trousseau Gris' is a white wine variety with gray to reddish-colored grapes, which is mainly cultivated in the American region of California . It is generally not made into a single variety, but used as a blending partner. Although they were cultivated in some American Viticultural Areas , the area under vines in the 1990s was a moderate 700 ha. Small stocks are known in France and New Zealand .
In California (→ Viticulture in California ) 'Trousseau Gris' is often blended with' Chardonnay 'or' Viognier ' and used in white wines , dessert wines and sparkling wines .'

'Trousseau Gris' is a mutation of the red wine variety ' Trousseau '.
Ampelographic varietal characteristics
- The shoot tip is open. It is only hairy white, with a slightly reddish tinge. The green-yellowish young leaves are hairy slightly downy.
- The large leaves are five-lobed and indented to medium depth. The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is serrated medium coarse. The foliage turns completely red in autumn.
- The cylindrical grape is small, shouldered and dense berries. The slightly oval berries are small and grayish-red in color.
Maturity: The grape variety ripens about 20 days after the ' Gutedel ' and is therefore considered to ripen in the middle of the period.
