List of grape varieties

Trousseau is a red wine variety native to the Jura . Cultivation there is declining because it is being replaced by the more popular varieties ' Pinot Noir ' and ' Chardonnay '.

distribution

In Portugal and Spain the variety is known as 'Bastardo' and in the Spanish region of Galicia it is known as 'Merenzao' or 'Maria Ardoña'. Small stands are also known in Argentina ('Pinot Grit de Rio Negro'), Australia (Gros Cabernet: 250 ha) and South Africa (188 ha). In 2010, the worldwide population was 3431 hectares. Smallest populations are also known in Switzerland (0.06 hectares, status 2009, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG).

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is only hairy white, with a slightly reddish tinge. The green-yellowish young leaves are hairy slightly downy.
  • The large leaves are five-lobed and indented to medium depth. The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is serrated medium coarse. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough. The foliage turns completely red in autumn.
  • The cylindrical grape is small, shouldered and dense berries. The slightly oval berries are small and bluish-black in color.

Maturity: The grape variety ripens about 20 days after the ' Gutedel ' and is therefore considered to ripen in the middle of the period.

properties

It sprouts quite late and thus escapes the late frosts. It is susceptible to anthracnose and raw rot . In addition, the variety is not very frost-resistant due to its poor wood ripeness. The yields are erratic and weak. The grape is very rich in sugar and low in acid .

Wine

The wine has a strong cherry red color and is reminiscent of red forest fruits. When blended with the ' Poulsard ' variety , very fine red wines are produced .

The ' Trousseau Gris ' grape variety known in California is a mutation of the 'Trousseau'.
