Michel Perez

Michel Perez (* 1946 ) is a French jazz musician ( guitar , composition).

Perez played as an autodidact at the Hot Club de Lyon , where he accompanied guest musicians such as Slide Hampton , Johnny Griffin , Kenny Clark and Hank Mobley . In 1972 he founded the group with keyboardist Gérard Maimone Spheroe with which he the Rock Jazz explored and presented in 1977 and 1978, two albums. In 1975 he also recorded dance music with the Gilles Jorant orchestra.

Since the 1980s he has mostly performed under his name and recorded with various formations, initially in a quartet; the albums Kaléidoscope (1982) and Virgile (1986, with Daniel Goyone , Dominique di Piazza and André Ceccarelli ) were created. In 1984 he opened as opening act for Miles Davis at the festivals in Vienna and Nice and was involved in the recording of the album Talisman (1984) with Jean-Luc Barbier , Daniel Goyone, Michel Benita and Daniel Humair and compositions by François Mozer. Bertrand Tavernier brought him to his film in 1986At midnight where he played with Herbie Hancock , Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter .

The album Toujours was made in New York with Ron Carter , Billy Drummond , Mario Stantchev and Franck Amsallem (1993). He recorded two albums as a duo, first Orange with Marc Bertaux on double bass (1991), then in 1996 with pianist Mario Stantchev. He is also part of the acoustic trio Traveling Jazz , which interprets film songs with Èlisabeth Caumont and Pierre-Yves Sorin on the double bass. He also accompanied Benny Golson on a tour in South Korea.

In 2005 the album Storias was created with Sylvain Beuf , François Chassagnite , Nico Morelli, Vincent Artaud and A. Ceccarelli. In 2012 he recorded the album Double détente as a duo with bassist Diego Imbert .
