Guillaume Perret (born June 21, 1980 in Annecy ) is a French jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , also keyboards ) and composer .

Live and act

Perret, who received his first music lessons at the age of six, played with the big band Collectif Lebocal at the age of 18 , on whose three albums he was involved. He studied at the Conservatory of Chambery . Music, in order to acquire various diplomas between 1999 and 2001. Then he wrote music for the Théâtre d'Icy and worked with various jazz musicians such as Claude Tchamitchian , Nguyên Lê , Flavio Boltro , Miles Okazaki , François Lindemann , Anne Ducros ( Ella my Dear , 2010) and Pascal Alba. He toured Switzerland, Poland, Germany and Latin America with the No Square quartet , which he founded in 2004 . In 2010 he performed with the Collectif Lebocal at jazzahead . In 2012 Perret released his first album under his own name on Tzadik (some pieces were already available in small editions as in-house production). With his band project The Electric Epic (with bassist Philippe Bussonnet and drummer Yoann Serra ) he made a guest appearance at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival in 2013 .

Perret is increasingly perceived as a "sound researcher" who uses electronics to extract new sounds from the saxophone and "sometimes sounds like a trumpet, sometimes like a clarinet". "His use of electronic equipment turns the royal instrument of acoustic jazz into a completely different instrument."
