Yoann Serra (* 1979 ) is a French jazz musician ( drums ) who is equally at home in jazz tradition and electronic music.

Life and becoming

Serra, who grew up in Nice , received instrumental lessons at the local conservatory from the age of six . As a youth he played with key musicians of the Nice jazz scene such as Jean-Marc Jafet and Gilbert Rovère and in the group MU. He went on tour with Ray Gomez , then accompanied the trumpeter François Chassagnite , with whom he recorded the album Un poco loco (with Fred D'Oelsnitz and Fabrice Bistoni). In 1999 he played with Francis Lassus , but also with Francis Lockwood , Sorgo and Boris Blanchet. In the following years he accompanied Ted Curson ,Shirley Bunnie Foy and Bobby Porcelli , at the Nice Jazz Festival also the singer Marcia Maria.

In 2003 he moved to Paris, where he appeared in jazz clubs alongside musicians such as Jean-Marc Jafet, Christian Escoudé and Marcia Maria. Soon he was playing in the groups of Laurent de Wilde , Emanuele Cisi , Lionel and Stéphane Belmondo , Sylvain Luc , Jean-Sebastien Simonoviez and Steve Grossman . In 2009 Daniel Yvinec brought him to the Orchester National de Jazz , to which he belonged until 2013 and with whom he recorded albums such as Around Robert Wyatt . He also played in Electric Epic by Guillaume Perret , with whom he appeared at numerous festivals (around 2013 in Frankfurt) and in Richard Manetti's group . He was also part of the trio of David Reinhardt and the quintet of accordionist Vincent Peirani , with whom he played numerous concerts in Germany after the 2013 SWR Jazz Meeting .
