Bert Noglik

Bert Noglik (born May 20, 1948 in Leipzig ) is a German jazz journalist and music critic .

Life

Noglik studied cultural studies at the University of Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1974 on environmental design in urban space . He has been a freelance journalist since 1977. From 1976 to 1979 he was the first German correspondent for the Polish magazine Jazz Forum and published its German edition in Warsaw in 1980/1. Noglik has written numerous articles for specialist journals, anthologies, symposia and broadcasts from various broadcasters such as MDR and Deutschlandfunk . He has been a jazz juror at the German Record Critics' Prize since the early 1990s .

From 1992 to 2007 Noglik was artistic director of the Leipzig Jazz Days . In this function he worked on musical and scenic projects (for example survival songs with David Moss and Jeanne Lee , Bach Now with Joachim Kühn and the St. Thomas Choir ). Noglik is an internationally sought-after expert on contemporary jazz and improvised music for symposia and competitions. Since 1999 he has organized the Bach reflections in Jazz at the Leipzig Bach Festival.

On September 10, 2008, Noglik received the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his reporting on Polish jazz since the 1970s and his efforts to promote artistic exchange as the director of the Leipzig Jazz Days , which in 2005 were dedicated to Poland alone . In 2009 he initiated the Sounds no Walls festival series in Berlin .

Noglik was the artistic director of the Berlin Jazz Festival from 2012 to 2014 .
