Ulli Blobel

Ulrich "Ulli" Blobel (born November 1950 in Peitz ) is a German concert promoter , publisher and music producer . He was one of the most important organizers of jazz concerts in the German Democratic Republic .

Live and act

Blobel attended school in Peitz and then completed an apprenticeship as an optician . He organized his first music events from 1969 in the Peitz film theater. Together with Peter “Jimi” Metag (1950–2013), Blobel founded the series of events in 1973, Jazzwerkstatt Peitz , which he held fifty times up to 2012. From 1976 he worked as a freelance concert organizer, initially in Berlin (East). The annual Peitzer open-air concerts in June, which were banned in 1982, attracted up to 3000 visitors (including nationwide); it was one of the most influential jazz festivals in the GDR. In 1984 Blobel migrated to Wuppertal, where he ran a concert agency. From 1993 to 2008 he devoted himself to the labels ITM and WestWind, which he founded, and sales companies in several European countries, e . Partly based in Italy, the production and distribution of records, CDs and DVDs. After finishing his work as a concert agent, he founded the Friends of Jazzwerkstatt Berlin-Brandenburg in 2006 in cooperation with musicians , from which a jazz label was created in 2007 with the entrepreneurial society Jazzwerkstatt , as well as a new classic label called Phil.harmonie . He is the producer of more than 1000 records with musicians from all over the world, e.g. B. by Eric Dolphy , Rolf Kühn .

Blobel has been convicted several times for bootlegs and copyright violations: most recently in 2004 by a court in Grasse (France) for illegal robbery of songs by Cesaria Evora to 6 months imprisonment and a fine, respectively in 2006 a court in Aix-en-Provence and in 2011 from the Wuppertal district court Violation of the copyright law and attempted fraud in the offense with forgery of documents to two years imprisonment on probation and a fine.
