Gaël Horellou (born August 22, 1975 in Caen ) is a French jazz musician ( alto , soprano and baritone saxophone , composition ).

Horellou initially received a classical education. In 1992 there were first appearances with drummer Jean-Benoît Culot. Between 1994 and 1997 he was a member of the Collectif Mu . At the Crescent Jazz Club he performed with Charles Bellanzi, Clovis Nicolas , Wayne Dockery , Éric Le Lann , Steve Grossman , Peter King and Riccardo Del Fra . In 1996 he founded the group Cosmik Connection with Philippe Garcia , which expanded into a trio with bassist Jérémie Picard.

Since 2000 he has been part of Laurent de Wilde's sextet , with whom he toured and recorded the albums Time for Change and Stories . In 2004 he worked with him on the album Organics in an electro-jazz quintet, in which Yoann Serra and Philippe Bussonet also played. Between 2000 and 2003 he was also part of Luigi Trussardi's band , with whom the album Introspection was created. In addition, he was involved in music recordings as a studio musician (for example with UHT , DJ Volta and DJ Ben) and performed in the drum 'n' bass area under the pseudonym Dual Snake .

Horellou founded the group NHX in 2002 with Yoann Serra on drums as well as Philippe Bussonnet (bass), Emmanuel Borghi (Fender Rhodes) and James MacGaw (guitar) who played for Magma . Since 2002 he has appeared regularly in a trio with Géraud Portal and Antoine Paganotti or Philippe Soirat ; The trio produced three albums between 2008 and 2012.

In 2007 the Nu-Jazz album Explorations was created . In the following year Horellou founded a quartet with Jean-Sebastien Simonoviez, François Gallix and Ari Hoenig , with whom the live album Pour la terre (DTC Records / Harmonia Mundi ) was created. In 2013 he recorded a live album at the Paris jazz club Le Duc des Lombards with Etienne Déconfin (piano), Viktor Nyberg (bass), Antoine Paganotti (drums) and the saxophonist Abraham Burton . In 2014 the album BrOoklyn was released with Ari Hoenig (drums), Etienne Déconfin (piano) and Viktor Nyberg (double bass). Coup de Vent followed in 2017 with a quintet with Jeremy Pelt .

In 2015 Horellou also released the electro-jazz album Synthesis on DTC Records (with Mallet player David Patrois and Géraud Portal). He continued to lead the Identité project , a fusion of jazz and maloya, traditional music from La Reunion . With Ari Hoenig he ran the duo project Nasty Factorz .
