Géraud Portal (born December 28, 1987 in Bourges ) is a French jazz musician ( double bass ).

Portal was born into a family of music lovers. When he was eight he played an electric bass for the first time . After getting to know jazz, he switched to the double bass and began to study intensively. At high school he made friends with the pianist Etienne Déconfin , with whom he later worked. François Gallix and Gaël Horellou , members of the Mû collective, taught him; David S. Ware became his mentor and invited him to New York; there he came into contact with William Parker .

Since 2002 he has been part of the trio of saxophonist Gaël Horellou, with whom he has created several albums. In 2012 he also appeared with Ari Hoenig , then with Arnold Lee, Ben Solomon and Kush Abadey , with whom his album Fort Greene Story , published in 2014 , was created. The next year, the quartet album Brothers , which was released in 2015, followed with Etienne Déconfin . In the same year he moved to Paris, where he organized jam sessions at the jazz club Le Duc des Lombards . He got to know numerous musicians with whom he recorded his tribute album for Charles Mingus , Let My Children Hear Mingus, in 2017 . He also accompanied Ali Jackson, Gary Bartz , Jazzmeia Horn , Kirk Lightsey , Saul Rubin , Luigi Grasso , Baptiste Herbin , Éric Legnini , Stéphane Belmondo , Olivier Hutman and Laurent Courthaliac .
