Jazzmeia Horn

Jazzmeia Horn (born April 16, 1991 in Dallas ) is an American jazz singer .
Live and act
Horn studied from 2009 to 2014 in New York at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music . After appearing on Radio WBGO with Junior Mance in 2009 , she performed with musicians such as Billy Harper , Brandon Sanders, Winard Harper , Jon Hendricks , Frank Wess , Ellis Marsalis and Delfeayo Marsalis . She toured the world with her own quintet; with Kirk Lightsey she made guest appearances at the Inntöne Festival, among others . In 2016 she performed with her quintet at the WDR 3 Jazzfest in Münster, with the WDR Big Band Cologne in 2018 at the JazzFest Berlin and in 2019 in the Cologne Philharmonic .
In May 2017, Prestige Records released their debut album A Social Call , which was nominated for a Grammy . She uses her singing to fight against injustice and racism. She can also be heard on albums by Lafayette Harris and on CPR Electrio by Ondřej Pivec and Karel Růžička junior.
Prizes and awards
In 2012 Horn was honored as a "Rising Star" at the international Sarah Vaughan competition, where she won first prize the following year. Three years in a row she was presented as “Best Singer (Student)” in Down Beat from 2010 . In 2015 she won the Thelonious Monk competition . At the end of 2019, her album Love & Liberation was nominated for the 2020 Grammy Awards .
