Delfeayo Marsalis (born July 28, 1965 in New Orleans / Louisiana ) is an American jazz trombonist and music producer .

Delfeayo Marsalis is the son of pianist Ellis Marsalis and brother of Branford and Wynton and Jason Marsalis . He attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and took trombone lessons from the age of thirteen. He studied classical trombone in Tanglewood , and in 1983 he performed Gordon Jacobs' trombone concerto with the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra . For his presentation of Alessandro Marcello's Sonata No. 6, he received the Outstanding Performance Award from the Jefferson Performing Arts Society .

From 1982 he studied trombone and studio production at Berklee College of Music . In 2005 he earned a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Louisville .

As a trombonist, Marsalis toured with musicians such as Art Blakey , Abdullah Ibrahim , Elvin Jones , Slide Hampton , Ray Charles , Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers , and Max Roach . He also leads a modern jazz band, with which he recorded seven albums by 2016. Donald Trump's campaign slogan Make America Great Again! was the starting point for the 2016 album, which includes the title track composed by Marsalis and the US national anthem as well as pieces by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Aaron Copland as well as the standard All of Me .

As a composer, he wrote music for the ABC series Moon over Miami , the documentaries Streetcar Mysteries and 112th & Central, and the New Orleans Ballet productions of Tennessee Williams ' streetcar Named Desire and Glass Menagerie . In 1997 Marsalis composed the musical Luther for the Summerstages Theater . He then founded the Uptown Music Theater for the music theater training of children and young people between the ages of 8 and 18, with whom he worked on five musicals over three summers. In the 2007/2008 season he performed in concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra a . a. Compositions by Duke Ellington .

He produced about 75 albums a. a. starring Harry Connick , Marcus Roberts , Ske Lee and his brothers, some of whom received Grammy nominations. In 1996 he received the 3M Visionary Award .
