Laurent Courthaliac (born January 15, 1973 in Le Puy-en-Velay ) is a French jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Courthaliac first learned the piano as an autodidact before studying with Mario Stantchev at the Conservatoire de Lyon ; there he was awarded a medal in 1994. He soon appeared with musicians such as Steve Grossman , Serge Lazarevitch , Yannick Rieu and Charles Bellonzi . With the Collectif Mû he won first prize at the La Défense jazz competition in 1996 and recorded for the Seventh Records label . In 1998 he moved to Paris, where he performed with Lee Konitz , Pierre Boussaguet , Rick Margitza , Christian Escoudé , Stéphane Belmondo , Pierrick Pedron , Joe Cohn , François Théberge , Sara Lazarus and others. As the resident pianist of the Le Petit Opportun club , he worked with Baptiste Trotignon , Olivier Temime and Alex Runde.

Courthaliac founded his own trio, with whom the album Scarlet Street was created for the Nocturne label in 2005 . In 2006 he accompanied Elisabeth Kontomanou on the duo album Brewing the Blues ; with her followed international tours and the album Siren Song: Live at the Arsenal , accompanied by a symphony orchestra under the direction of Jacques Mercier. In 2013, Pannonica, the second album of his trio, was released. In 2016 he and his octet released the tribute album All My Life, A Musical Tribute to Woody Allen , which received the Prix ​​du Disque de Jazz Français 2016 from the Académie du Jazz .
