Joe Sanders
Joe Sanders (* 1984 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American modern jazz bassist .

Sanders had first lessons with Catherine McGinn, a musician with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Influenced by jazz bassists such as Charles Mingus , Paul Chambers and Ray Brown , he studied from 2002 at the Dave Brubeck Institute with Christian McBride . He then moved to New York; a year later he continued his studies at the Thelonious Monk Institute Los Angeles from Terence Blanchard ; there he studied with John Clayton and Bob Hurst. He also performed in Vietnam and India with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock ; he also toured with the Roy Hargrove Quintet in North America and Europe. In the following years he was a member of the trio of Gerald Clayton ( Two-Shade ) together with Justin Brown , which also toured with Charles Lloyd as his quartet in 2015 .
Under his own name, Sanders recorded the album Introducing Joe Sanders in 2011 with his New York band - consisting of pianist Luis Perdomo , alto saxophonist Will Vinson and drummer Rodney Green - which was released on Criss Cross Jazz . In the field of jazz he was involved in 25 recording sessions between 2001 and 2013. a. with Ambrose Akinmusire ( Prelude , 2007), Theo Croker , Christian Scott ( Live at Newport , 2008), Laurent Coq ( Eight Fragments Of Summer ), Walter Smith III , Joris Roelofs , Oran Etkin , Romain Collin and Dayna Stephens . The album Humanity followed in 2017 , with John Ellis , Aaron Parks and Eric Harland . In addition to his own compositions, he played songs by Joe Henderson ("Afro-Centric") and Pat Metheny ("Travels"). He is also involved in Géraud Portal's album Let My Children Hear Mingus (2018). Currently part of Ethan Iverson's trio (with Jorge Rossy ).
He is not to be confused with the bandleader of the same name of the Coon-Sanders Original Nighthawks Orchestra .
