Luis Perdomo (born February 19, 1971 in Caracas ) is a Venezuela native , working in the United States jazz pianist and arranger .

Live and act

Perdomo is from Venezuela and took piano lessons as a child; as a youth he was the resident pianist in Caracas jazz clubs. At the age of 22 he moved to New York City , where he has lived ever since. He studied both jazz and classical music at the Manhattan School of Music and Queens College . Through the mediation of Roland Hanna , he received the first opportunity to appear in the Jazz Gallery in Manhattan as an accompanist for saxophonist Yosvany Terry ; in the following years he also worked with David Gilmore , Jerry Gonzalez and The Fort Apache Band, Dafnis Prieto , John Benitez , Brian Lynch , and with Ray Barretto , for whom he also arranged. He was a long-time member of the bands of Ravi Coltrane ( Spirit Fiction , 2012) and Miguel Zenón ( Awake , 2006); he also began to work with his own formations; In 2003 he recorded his debut album Focus Point (RKM Music), which was produced by Ravi Coltrane. Perdomo, who u. a. also participated in recordings of Monday Michiru and Hans Glawischnig , is influenced by Chick Corea , McCoy Tyner , Keith Jarrett , Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock .
