Hans Glawischnig (born October 22, 1970 in Graz ) is an Austrian bassist and composer of modern jazz who was part of the music scene in New York City .

Live and act

Glawischnig, son of jazz musician Dieter Glawischnig , began taking violin lessons in 1976 . In 1983 he switched to the bass guitar , and in 1986 the double bass was added. From 1986 to 1988 he received lessons from Wayne Darling as a young student in Graz . After graduating from high school, he went to the Berklee School of Music in Boston , where he studied with Bruce Gertz . From 1992 to 1993 he completed his master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York with Jeff Andrews . In 1995 he became a member of Bobby Watson's Urban Renewal ; He played briefly in Maynard Ferguson's Big Bop Nouveau and then in 1996 in Ray Barretto's New World Spirit . This made many musicians aware of him. He subsequently performed with musicians such as Paquito D'Rivera , Dave Samuels , Bobby Sanabria , Rick Margitza , Garry Dial , Billy Harper , Richie Beirach , Billy Hart , Joe Locke , Stefon Harris and Claudio Roditi . With David Sánchez he played two albums, Melasa and Travesia , which were nominated for a Grammy . He recorded his compositions with his own group; his second album Panorama received high critical acclaim in 2008. He also arranged for Ray Barretto and contributed his own compositions to a recording session with Brian Lynch . In 2006 he toured Europe with Chick Corea's project The Continents . Glawischnig played on 78 albums between 1991 and 2018, including a. with James Moody , Miguel Zenón or in a duo with guitarist Ken Hatfield. He has been a member of the hr big band since 2018 .
