Live and act

McPherson is a grandson of bassist Richard Davis and named after Eric Dolphy . He grew up with jazz music and wanted to be a drummer at the age of three (as he told Elvin Jones at the time ). He first learned as an autodidact on a drum set that belonged to Charles Moffett , before he received drum lessons from Michael Carvin for seven years from the age of twelve ; at that time he was already jamming with Abraham Burton . He attended LaGuardia High School of the Arts and was inducted into the New York All City High School Big Band and the McDonald's High School Tri-State Big Band because of his achievements . He then studied at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in Connecticut with Jackie McLean , in whose band he played drums for fifteen years.

He also recorded numerous albums with Abraham Burton. He also worked with Pharoah Sanders , Richard Davis, Claudia Acuña , Jason Moran , Greg Osby , Kurt Rosenwinkel and Avishai Cohen . He can also be heard on albums by Andrew Hill ( Time Lines ), Steve Lehman and Steve Davis . He is a faculty member at the University of Hartford .
