Kurt Peter Rosenwinkel (born October 28, 1970 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American jazz musician (guitar, also piano, bass, vocals). He has lived in Berlin since 2004 .

Live and act

Rosenwinkel, who grew up in a musical family, received piano lessons from the age of nine. At the age of twelve he switched to jazz guitar ; at Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts , his classmates included Christian McBride , Joey DeFrancesco, and Questlove . After studying at the Berklee School of Music , he toured with Gary Burton in 1992 .

He then moved to New York City , where he played with Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band (from 1992), Joe Henderson , the Brian Blade Fellowship , Tim Hagans , Seamus Blake , Perico Sambeat and Jochen Rückert . Musicians like Mark Turner , Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman play in his own group . In 2013 he played a solo concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival ; he also performed with Eric Clapton and with the hr big band . He has worked together for several years with the Portuguese Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos (OJM).

Since March 2004 Rosenwinkel has been teaching at the jazz department of the Lucerne School of Music; From the 2007/08 winter semester until 2016 he was professor for guitar / ensemble direction at the Jazz Institute Berlin .

On June 4, 2019, Eric Clapton brought Kurt Rosenwinkel onto the stage of the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin as a guest. In front of 12,000 spectators they played the songs " Cocaine " and " Before You Accuse Me " together for the show finale .
