Claudia Acuña (born July 31, 1971 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean jazz singer .

As a teenager, Acuña sang traditional folk music as well as current pop songs before she discovered jazz at the age of fifteen . She quickly made a name for herself in the small jazz scene in Santiago, where she also appeared with foreign musicians such as Wynton Marsalis , Michel Petrucciani , Joe Lovano and Danilo Pérez .

In 1995 she went to New York , where she worked in various jazz clubs, a. a. performed at the Zinc Bar and Smalls , soon with Jason Lindner's Big Band and with pianist Harry Whitaker . With the bassist Avishai Cohen she recorded a demo tape that brought her a contract with Verve Records . Her first album The Wind From the South was released there in 2000 . She then performed at numerous festivals and worked as a sidewoman a. a. by Guillermo Klein , Antonio Hart , Alex Norris , Avi Leibovich , Mark Elf , Danilo Pérez, Tom Harrell and George Benson .
