Zinc Bar

The Zinc Bar is a jazz club in the New York borough of Manhattan that has existed in its current form since the early 2000s.

The Zinc Bar is located 82 W 3rd Street between Thompson Street and Sullivan Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood . The club has been owned by the siblings Alex Kay and Kristina Kossi, who took over the former Club Cinderella , since the early 2000s . Jazz greats such as Thelonious Monk and Billie Holiday performed there from the 1940s ; Frank Sinatra was one of the guests . It later became an Irish rock club. After its takeover, the club's former Art Deco decor was restored.

In addition to daily appearances by jazz musicians (such as JD Allen III , Victor Bailey , Cyro Baptista , Richard Bona , Billy Drummond , Orrin Evans , Joel Frahm , Gregory Hutchinson , Jack Jeffers , Talib Kibwe , David Kikoski , Frank Lacy , Oliver Lake , Joe Magnarelli , Linda Oh , Ed Polcer , Wallace Roney , Bobby Sanabria , Lew Soloff , EJ Strickland , Yosvany Terry or Charles Tolliver ) play African and Brazilian bands and stand-up comedy artists there on the weekends .

There were recordings of performances by the Lonnie Plaxico Group ( Live at the Zinc Bar NYC , 2007), Richie Goods & Nuclear Fusion (with Helen Sung ), the Rashied Ali Tribute Band ( Live at The Zinc Bar , with Josh Evans , among others ) and by Valery Ponomarev ( Our Father Who Art Blakey (2014), inter alia with Benny Golson ). Some pieces of the record Common Language by Attila Zoller and Helmut Kagerer were also recorded there.
