EJ Strickland

EJ Strickland (born February 24, 1979 in Gainesville (Florida) as Enoch Jamal Strickland ) is an American modern jazz drummer who is also familiar with world music , hip-hop and Afro-Cuban music .

Strickland, twin brother of saxophonist Marcus Strickland and son of an orchestral percussionist , attended the New World School of the Arts in Miami , before he started in 1997 in New York at The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music with Joe Chambers , Michael Carvin , Carl Allen , Ralph Peterson , Lewis Nash and Jimmy Cobb studied. During his studies he played with Wynton Marsalis , Abbey Lincoln , Christian McBride , Herbie Hancock and Dianne Reeves . David Weiss put him in the New Jazz Composers Octet . He became known in the groups of Ravi Coltrane , Marcus Strickland and Russell Malone before leading his own bands. In 2009 he presented his debut album under his own name with In This Day . He has also accompanied Cassandra Wilson , George Colligan and David Gilmore . Between 1999 and 2016 he was involved in 47 recordings from sound carriers. In 2018 he was a member of the Robin Eubanks Quartet.
