Ernest Kline

Ernest Paul Kline (born June 20, 1929 in Allentown , Pennsylvania , †  May 13, 2009 in Hershey , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1971 and 1979 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

Ernest Kline attended public schools including Rostraver High School in Westmoreland County . He dropped out of studies at Duquesne University prematurely. He then worked as a newscaster for various broadcasters in several cities in Pennsylvania. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1955 he sat on the Beaver Falls parish council . In 1961 he was also an arbitrator for accident insurance issues in his home country. Between 1965 and 1971 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate , where he headed the Democratic Group from 1967 to 1970. In 1972 and 2000 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions .

In 1970, Kline was elected Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania alongside Milton Shapp . He held this office after a re-election between 1971 and 1979. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1978 he failed in the gubernatorial election of his party. He died on May 13, 2009 at Hershey Medical Center .
