Robert S. Murphy

Robert S. Murphy (born October 18, 1861 in Louisville , St. Lawrence County , New York , †  June 24, 1912 ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1911 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania .

Career

Robert Murphy was born in Louisville in the state of New York and grew up in Portland ( Maine on). He later graduated from Hedding College in Illinois . From 1880 he lived in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1881, he began to work in this profession. Between 1892 and 1898 he was a district attorney in Cambria County .

Politically, Murphy was a member of the Republican Party . In 1900 and 1908 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions , at which Theodore Roosevelt and later William Howard Taft were nominated as presidential candidates. At the state level, Murphy played an important role within his party. In 1906 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania at the side of Edwin Sydney Stuart . He held this office between 1907 and 1911. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He died on June 24, 1912.
