Walter Lyon

Walter Lyon (born April 27, 1853 in Sewickley , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania , †  March 21, 1933 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1895 and 1899 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

Walter Lyon attended the public schools in his home country and the Wakeham Academy in Pittsburgh. At times he was also given private lessons. After finishing school, he worked as a teacher himself for five years. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1877, he began to work in this profession in Pittsburgh. Between 1889 and 1893 he succeeded George A. Allen as a federal attorney for western Pennsylvania. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1908, 1916, 1924, and 1928 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions . He served in the Pennsylvania Senate from 1893 to 1894 .

In 1894 Lyon was elected lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania alongside Daniel H. Hastings . He held this office between 1895 and 1899. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After serving as Vice Governor, he returned to work as a lawyer for the Lyon, Hunter & Burke law firm . From 1921 to 1925, he succeeded Denis J. Driscoll as a federal attorney for the western part of Pennsylvania. Lyon was also a member of numerous organizations and associations. He died on March 21, 1933 in Pittsburgh, where he was also buried. He had three children with his wife Charlotte.
