Roy E. Furman

Roy E. Furman (born April 16, 1901 in Davistown , Greene County , Pennsylvania , †  May 18, 1977 in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1955 and 1959 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

Nothing is known about Roy Furman's youth and schooling. Professionally, he was active in the construction industry, where he owned his own company. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1940, 1956 and 1960 he was a delegate or substitute delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . From 1933 to 1940 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania , of which he was president from 1936 to 1938.

In 1954, Furman was elected Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania alongside George Michael Leader . He held this office between 1955 and 1959. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1958 he ran unsuccessfully in the gubernatorial election of his party. From 1959 to 1963 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission . He died in Harrisburg on May 18, 1977.
