David J. Davis

David J. Davis (born November 22, 1870November 19, 1942 in Scranton , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1927 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

David Davis grew up in Scranton. Since 1894 he was a member of the military. He was both in the National Guard of his state and later in the United States Army . He took part in the Spanish-American War of 1898 as a first lieutenant . In 1916 he was stationed at the border there during a border conflict with Mexico and he was a member of the American expeditionary forces in the First World War . There he became a colonel chief of staff of a division. Eventually he also served on the staff of Supreme Commander General John J. Pershing . After the war he co-founded the American Legion veterans' organization . For 20 years he worked as a solicitor for the city of Scranton , which suggests a previous law degree.

Politically, Davis joined the Republican Party . In 1922 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania alongside Gifford Pinchot . He held this office between 1923 and 1927. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . From 1932 to 1935 he was the commander of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He died in Scranton on November 19, 1942.
