William T. Davies

William T. Davies (born December 20, 1831 in Glamorganshire , Wales , †  September 21, 1912 in Towanda , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

William Davies and his parents came to Towanda, Pennsylvania from his Welsh homeland while still growing up. After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. Later he was captain of an infantry regiment from Pennsylvania. Maybe it was at the time of the Civil War . Between 1865 and 1868 he was a district attorney in Bradford County .

Politically, Davies joined the Republican Party . Between 1877 and 1884 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . In 1886 he was elected lieutenant governor of that state at the side of James Addams Beaver . He held this office between 1887 and 1891. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on September 21, 1912 in Towanda, where he was also buried.
