Robert Carl Jubelirer (born February 9, 1937 in Altoona , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Between 2001 and 2003 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

Robert Jubelirer first studied history at Pennsylvania State University . After a subsequent law degree at the Dickinson School of Law and his admission to the bar, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1975 and 2006 he sat in the Senate of Pennsylvania , whose incumbent President ( President Pro Tempore ) he was from 1985 to 1992 and from 1994 to 2006. In the meantime he headed the republican faction there.

After the resignation of Governor Tom Ridge , who became Minister of Homeland Security in the cabinet of President George W. Bush , his lieutenant governor Mark S. Schweiker succeeded him in the highest office of state in Pennsylvania. At the same time, in accordance with the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, Robert Jubelirer, became the new vice governor. Between 2001 and 2003 he ended the term of office of his predecessor. He was Deputy Governor and formal Chairman of the State Senate. He also headed the pardons committee and the Emergency Management Agency .

In 2006, Jubelirer lost his party's primary election while trying to be nominated again for the State Senate. In 2013, he unsuccessfully sought a seat on the board of directors of Pennsylvania State University. He has three children with his wife.
