Edward C. Shannon

Edward Caswell Shannon (born June 24, 1870 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  May 20, 1946 in Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1931 and 1935 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Pennsylvania.

Career

Edward Shannon grew up in the town of Columbia , Lancaster County , and then completed a long career in the military. He was active in both the Pennsylvania State National Guard and in the US Army . As a captain of an infantry unit from Pennsylvania, he took part in the Spanish-American War of 1898 , where he took part in the campaign on Puerto Rico , among other things . During the First World War , as major general of the Army, he was commander of an infantry division. After the war he served in the national guard of his state. Between 1933 and 1939, also during his time as Lieutenant Governor, he commanded their 28th Infantry Division. Outside the military, Shannon became president of Columbia-based Lucas Manufacturing Co.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1930 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania at the side of Gifford Pinchot . He held this office between 1931 and 1935. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In June 1932 he took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago ; in 1934 he ran unsuccessfully to nominate his party for the upcoming gubernatorial elections. Edward Shannon died on May 20, 1946.
