The FFH area Alb zum Hochrhein is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-8314-341) in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg registered in 2005 by the Freiburg Regional Council according to Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . With the ordinance of the regional council of Freiburg on the definition of areas of Community importance of October 25, 2018, the area was determined.

The 1210.1 hectare protected area belongs to the natural areas 155- Hochschwarzwald and 160- Hochrheintal within the natural spatial main units 15- Black Forest and 16- Hochrheinggebiet .
It essentially comprises the valley of the Alb between St. Blasien and Albbruck and extends over the markings of seven cities and municipalities in the district of Waldshut:
- Albbruck = 471.9569 ha, 39%
- Dachsberg (southern Black Forest) = 145.2175 ha, 12%
- Görwihl = 108.9131 ha, 9%
- Laufenburg (Baden) = 60,5073 ha, 5%
- Sankt Blasien = 375.1452 ha, 31%
- Weilheim = 24.2029 ha, 2%
- Waldshut-Tiengen = 36.3043 ha, 3%
Description and purpose of protection
The protected area is a deeply cut canyon valley in the southern Black Forest with a natural mountain stream, floodplain gallery forests, ravine forests, beech forests as well as rocks and rubble heaps. Species-rich grassland in places on the valley floor. Extensive beech forests in the southwest.

The FFH area overlaps with several landscape protection areas . The entire area is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park . The nature reserves

are completely in the FFH area.
