Saul Rubin
Saul "Zebulon" Rubin (born October 30, 1958 ) is an American jazz musician ( guitar ) of modern jazz who is also active as a music organizer.
Live and act
Saul Rubin studied composition and jazz at the Hartt School of Music , where he took lessons from Jackie McLean and Paul Jeffrey ; then he moved to New York City. In the local music scene he worked from the 1980s a. a. with Thomas Chapin , with whom the first recordings were made in 1988 ( Spirits Rebellious ), also with Sonny Rollins , Roy Hargrove , Renée Fleming , John Hicks , Victor Lewis , Bob Cranshaw , Sammy Figueroa , Johnny O'Neal , Hank Jones , Frank Wess , Cameron Brown , Candido , Winard Harper , Larry Willis , Sue Terry , Essiet Essiet , Willie Jones III , Eric Revis , James Hurt , Gerald Cannon , Sherman Irby , Lew Soloff , Jonathan Batiste and Roberta Gambarini . In the early 2010s he made his debut album Saul Rubin Quartet (with John Hicks, Gerald Cannon, Montez Coleman).
In 2009, Rubin opened the Zeb’s venue in a New York loft in Manhattan , where numerous musicians (including Ai Murakami) have performed since then. Since 2010 he has curated a series on jazz singing , in which vocalists such as Gregory Porter , Roseanna Vitro , Nancy Harms , Bob Dorough , Johnny O'Neal , Tessa Souter and Brianna Thomas appeared . He also produced the NYC Jazz Guitar Festival for three years with performances by Bucky Pizzarelli , Gene Bertoncini , Peter Bernstein and Paul Bollenback . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him at eleven recording sessions between 1988 and 2013.
