Ray Gomez

Ray Gomez (also Raymond Gomez ; * 1953 in Casablanca , Morocco ) is an electric guitarist, known for his work with bassist Stanley Clarke and his own solo projects.

He started playing the piano at the age of eight after hearing What I'd say from Ray Charles . At the age of ten he switched to the guitar. He was a member of the group Pop Tops , which had a chart success with Mamy Blue in 1971 . In 1973 George Harrison invited him to London, England, where he met Keith Emerson , Jon Anderson and Carmine Appice . A year later he came to New York, where he became a sought-after session guitarist . In 1976 he played the guitar solo on the title track of the album School Days by bassist Stanley Clarke , which is considered one of his best. He also worked with Narada Michael Walden and Chaka Khan , among others . Gomez has received praise from many musicians over the years, including Carlos Santana and Jeff Beck . Guitar virtuoso Shawn Lane covered his piece "West Side Boogie" on his album Powers of Ten . Ray Gomez prefers Fender Stratocasters , but has also used Gibson Les Paul models over the years .
