Karin Hammar (* 1974 in Boden , Sweden ) is a Swedish modern jazz musician ( trombone , composition ).

Live and act

Hammar, who learned the trombone like her sister Mimmi, studied at the Royal Conservatory in Stockholm from 1994 to 1997 . Then she played with her sister in the group Sliding Hammers , with which she toured internationally, met with a lot of feedback live, especially in Japan, and released four albums. She was also invited to play in the big band of the European Broadcasting Union and was a member of the Scandinavian April Light Orchestra and the world music group Jazzmyne . Occasionally she played with the WDR Big Band Cologne and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra ( Migrations 2011); In 2011 she brought Nils Landgren , with whom she had worked before ( Sentimental Journey 2002), to the Jazz Baltica Ensemble . She also played with Kenny Werner , Tim Hagans , Steve Swallow , Gary Burton , Bob Brookmeyer , Maria Schneider , Carla Bley , Jim McNeely and Ivan Lins . In 2004 she recorded her own compositions on her debut album With Friends . Since 2007 she has been leading her own group, with which she was invited to Jazz Baltica in 2009 and toured regularly in Sweden and Germany. She is also involved in recordings by Marie Fredriksson , Sophie Zelmani , Amanda Sedgwick and Magnus Lindgren .

Prizes and awards

Hammar received the Alice Babs Jazz Award in 2004 , then the Jazz Club Fasching Award , the Stockholm Culture Prize, the Thore Swanerud and in 2009 the SKAP (Swedish Society for Popular Music Composers) composer's award.
