Romane (actually Patrick Leguidecoq ; * 1959 in Paris ) is a French jazz guitarist in the tradition of Django Reinhardt . He is one of the contemporary guitarists who made gypsy jazz famous in Great Britain and North America. In his solos he plays slower and less than most of the others, but has developed his own style after Michael Dregni and has also emerged as a composer.

Live and act

Romane , whose father and grandfather played the guitar and introduced him to Django Reinhardt's music on walks along the Porte de Clignancourt , began playing the guitar himself when he was twelve. As a youth he could play with Roma guitarists like Mondine Garcia and his son Ninine Garcia , with whom he became friends. He later performed with Babik Reinhardt , Chet Atkins and James Carter . In 1995 he founded the ATLA music school in Paris, where guitar is taught in the Reinhardt tradition. He is also known in France as a textbook author ( L´Esprit manouche , 2001 with Derek Sebastian). Since 2000 he has also been the producer of Stochelo Rosenberg , with whom he also appears internationally as a duo as Gypsy Guitar Masters . He also played with Angelo Debarre and formed the Django 100 quartet with him, Boulou and Elios Ferré . With his sons, the guitarists Pierre and Richard Manetti , he has presented two albums.

Prizes and awards

Romane was awarded the Prix Sidney Bechet in 1997 . In 2013 he received the Grand Prix jazz de la SACEM .
